Well, I think in some ways both roles are similar but in other ways are different.

Your traditional Rit is a hybrid of Restoration and Channeling. Usually something like or a slight variation of this following build.

The build is basically a versatile support used to buff the damage output of your front and/or mid-line physicals with some very good AoE damage. You also have a few party wide heals (able to heal from roughly 2.7 Danger Zone radii away or further) as well as condition removal to relieve pressure from your monks. Good at helping to keep everyone alive, doesn't have to grind out title ranks and makes your enemies die quicker.

Your standard Imbagon is a mix of high leadership, high spear mastery and relies heavily on PVE title skills. Usually something like or a slight variation of this following build.

This build build gives constant damage reduction through the use of "SY!" and "TNtF!", helps boost the DPS of your fellow physical attackers as well as your own, single target DPS. Keep in mind, this offers none of the condition removal, none of the AoE and barely any heals that the ritualist has to offer. Also, this does require at least some title hunting work in order to be effective. Given the state of GW, this is not an issue but I do know that there are plenty of players who abhor or detest titles and title hunting. However, there is a reason why this was called "Godmode" before a certain bear strode into town.


In my opinion, while both standard builds are fine, the ritualst comes out in top with it's versatility. The ritualist can take on a plethora of roles within a party with the right setup while the Paragon only has a handful of builds to work with.

tl;dr: Keep the rit, only make the para if and when you're bored and have a free slot.

I play both rit and paragon, and I play both so frequently they could both be considered mains.

I'd have to say, they're both very fun classes, and I'd recommend keeping both.

Rits not only have spirit spamming and channeling, but they have restoration(I'm terrible at healing, so I don't like resto...), hybrid(see resto), and spirit's strength, which turns you into a glass cannon of sorts, weapon support, weapon spike(nightmare weapon FTW!) Rits are pretty much the most variable class in the game. They are capable of doing anything, so keep at it, you'll find something.

Paragons are pretty fun, and are incredible damage dealers with spears. I play a spearagon in both PvP and PvE, and it works wonderfully. You get all the damage of a warrior(or more), with the range of a midline fighter, and some great party support with GFTE! and Burning Anthem. Imbagon is just spamming the same skills over and over, ends up boring as hell, and if you make a Paragon just for that, you will regret it.

I love the way people say that paragons are c+space and spam on recharge. Isn't basically what all physical characters but rangers do?

And even many of the rangers builds I see around revolve around [[glass arrows] or barrage+splinter.

And although casters have generally more situational skills, most of the popular builds of eles and monks (and aren't these guys everywhere compared to other casters) revolve around spamming [[searing flames] on recharge or [[heal party] with [[healer's boon].

I really don't see what kind of finesse you can introduce on classes that revolve on smacking enemies with their weapons. Guess they might have "silver bullets" like [[mirror of disenchant] and other stuff, but mostly their decisions is move to body block and changing targets to pressure and make the healing/protection spread around instead of on a single target and then unload their skills.

I played around 600 hours on my ritualist, had a lot of fun. Playing Monk for now though.

I have both and truth be told, I like my Paragon alot more. I guess I just don't have the patience to spent 3-5 seconds casting up a bunch of spirits to kill a mob that only takes 10 seconds to kill. I've looked at the Rit elites and tried to make a Channeling Rit, but, tbh, I just don't like the spells that much.

I'm not going to delete my Ritualist though. Eventually, I might find something that I like. Were I you, I'd just grab another character slot, they're only $10 USD, and it's fun being able to have the choice of character to play.

Not to go off topic here but I see this happen quite often where people make a ritualist, throw a bunch of spirits on their bar and then come back later and say they don't like them. Some of the ritualist's most powerful spells ([Gaze from Beyond], [Ghostly Haste], [Ghostmirror Light], [Mend Body and Soul], [Offering of Spirit], [Spirit Light], [Spirit Transfer]) only require a single spirit to be in range so why bother bogging yourself down with spirit after spirit after spirit?

Yeah, I know it's really weird that the one type of skill (binding ritual) the profession is named after can sometimes be it's downfall but really, people have to stop looking at the ritualist in that sense and more as a secondary healer with front line support.

I run both almost as often as I run my war now.

I find the Paragon is great for leading a party, it has excelent control over the battlefield when it comes to calling targets or spotting some incoming spikes.

I find my Rit makes a powerful backup to the primary monk healer and can dish out enough damage to class it as a Nuker. Add to its survivability with skills like [protective was kaolai] and [caretaker's charge].

I play paragon as my main. I tried ritualist but too confusing. Plus I like the class paragon since its a spear/healing/warrior/ in 1.

Rits shouldn't get hit hard, they are slightly balanced now.

Paragons should get killed.

Keep in mind we have the PvE/P split now which means they can kill it on one side and have it alive on the other. Imbagon is not the only viable build.

I'd say buff Ritualist RITUALS. It's sick that ritualists don't use binding rituals because they are bad. It's like elementalist that could only wand because his Elemental spells suck.

I used to play ritualist for a long time. Mostly resto, sometimes communing/support, rarely spirit spammer. But I have to say that I am deeply depressed. Because if you play the ritu as a healer everyone will tell you that a monk is just better in any way. And if you play as damage dealer everyone will tell you that an elementalist is just better, again.
Therefore I switched to a monk (because I like healing). Finally PuGs no longer question my viability as a healer. And you know what? If I look at those nice monk elite spells I feel that ANet indeed favors monks over ritualists or that ANet has no idea what to do with the ritualist profession
